Product Description

The Zeikos 3-Piece Automatic Extension Tube Set is designed specifically for use with Nikon digital SLR cameras and lenses ranging from macro to semi-telephoto, and allows the photographer to enable a lens to focus closer than its normal set minimum focusing distance. Getting closer has the effect of magnifying your subject (making it appear larger in the viewfinder and in your pictures). They are exceptionally useful for macro photography, enabling you to convert almost any lens into a macro lens at a fraction of the cost while maintaining its original optical quality.

These extension tubes have no optics. They are mounted in between the camera body and lens to create more distance between the lens and film plane. By moving the lens father away from the film or CCD sensor in the camera, the lens is forced to focus much closer than normal. The greater the length of the extension tube, the closer the lens can focus.

This set contains three tubes of different length -- 12mm, 20mm, and 36 mm -- which can be used individually or in any combination to obtain the desired magnification. These extension tubes are designed with all the circuitry and mechanical coupling to maintain auto focus and TTL auto exposure with most Nikon lenses, given there is enough light to activate the cameras AF system properly.

5 out of 5 stars Works great - after some weird behavior at first   June 13, 2010

I use these tubes with a Nikon D5000 with the Nikon 85 mm DX-VR macro lens.
At first, it did not work together at all - neither the autofocus, nor the exposure. Then, strangely enough, after I tried all three tubes after each other a few times, the exposure began to work in aperture mode. Then, as unexpectedly as before, on the next day the autofocus worked. I guess, the camera had to familiarize itself with this new strange equipment. Other than that, I don't have any good explanation for this weird behavior. But now everything works just fine, and the pictures I get with the tubes are stunning.
Other than that, the tubes are made out of plastic, but have a very sturdy look-and-feel to it. The connections to camera and lens are very tight and fit perfectly.
So, you might need a little patience to get these tubes to work, but if they do, the results make the hassle worthwhile.

Let me say after reading other reviews online about this product, my expectations were low. Being that I'm on a budget and that I do very little macro photography I thought I would give them a shot for the price. First the negative. The plastic used for this product is not of "Nikon quality." (Not even close.) The contacts where the lens attaches also appear to be of a low quality. With that said, I feel that it is a great product for the price I paid for them. I have complete faith that they will support my Nikkor 105mm VR Micro lens. So much so, I'll sling it over my shoulder on the tripod just as I always have. (And that means something. I really love that glass.) I've had no connectivity issues as others have described. They simply work. There is no visible weatherproofing and I would not walk around on a rainy day with the tubes attached. With all that said. I think this is a great product for the price. If you want a high-grade weatherproofed product, I'd look somewhere else.
